Olivia Maylam Racing Ltd
In May 2010, 28 year old Olivia Maylam realised her lifetimes ambition to become a dual purpose racehorse trainer. Getting to that point was not easy as like all new trainers starting out with limited backing she soon realised how demanding the horseracing game could be. Within her first year of training her first winner came in August 2010 with Strike Force at Beverley which was the first of four wins and twelve placed horses from a string of six moderate thoroughbreds that year.
In January 2011, a move from racing HQ in Newmarket to a bigger yard in Epsom was planned and successfully achieved based primarily on beating the deepening economic crisis that was plunging the nation and racing into recession. Location is very important and Epsom is a fantastically positioned training centre with impressive facilities and with ten racecourses a little over an hours drive away, travelling and gallop fee costs were cut considerably. It has taken a short time to adjust to new surroundings, new gallops and
veterinary practices but so far this year the twelve horses, many being long standing maidens for other trainers, in Olivias yard, have combined to achieve seven winners and thirty five places.
In terms of moving forward in 2012, Olivia plans to compete in France with as many runners as possible. Prize money for lower grade racing in France is almost five times more than in the UK offering owners a more profitable chance of owning a racehorse. Whilst consistency remains paramount at whatever level all horses head out from the yard in supreme condition as being competitive at all times is the ultimate goal!
